Preventive Dentistry

Building Healthy Habits From First Tooth

Preventive dentistry is the core foundation of Green Level’s clinical philosophy. Early, consistent preventive care reduces the risk of cavities and complex dental problems later in life. We focus on strict prevention, never recommending unnecessary treatments. Dr. Kim emphasizes education, professional fluoride and sealant applications, and family support to establish lifelong habits that protect developing teeth.

Children’s Dentistry

Specialized Care Designed For Young Patients

Every service from the first dental visit through adolescence is delivered using techniques and behavioral strategies specifically designed for children’s unique needs and anxieties. Dr. Michael Kim completed a rigorous specialty residency in pediatric dentistry and is a proud board-eligible member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD).

Orthodontic Services

Guiding Healthy Bite Development

Dr. Kim focuses on essential foundational orthodontic care, including Phase 1 early interventions, interceptive space management, and select clear aligner therapy for straightforward cases. His ongoing advanced orthodontic residency training enables seamless integration of this care with routine pediatric visits. (Please note: Comprehensive Phase 2 treatments, such as traditional braces, are scheduled exclusively as dedicated orthodontic appointments to ensure focused, specialized care.)

Sleep Apnea & Snoring Treatment

(Scheduled by Dedicated Appointment Only)

Sleep-disordered breathing can significantly impact a child’s sleep quality, school performance, and healthy growth. Dr. Kim evaluates airway and snoring symptoms, collaborates with physicians for diagnostic sleep studies when indicated, and provides conservative interventions such as oral appliances. (Consultations for sleep apnea and airway concerns are scheduled exclusively as dedicated appointments.)

Sedation Dentistry

Comfortable Care for Anxious Patients

For anxious young patients, Dr. Kim offers safe nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation to create a calm, comfortable treatment experience. This reversible, mild sedation helps children relax while remaining awake, allowing us to provide necessary care without building fear or trauma.

TMJ/TMD Treatment

(Scheduled by Dedicated Appointment Only)

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders affect the jaw joint and surrounding muscles, potentially causing jaw pain, limited jaw opening, clicking or popping sounds, or referred pain to the head and neck. Children and teens can experience TMJ/TMD symptoms from trauma, habits like nail biting or pencil chewing, or developmental factors. Dr. Kim evaluates TMJ function during comprehensive exams and recommends conservative treatment approaches including habit modification, physical therapy, and custom oral appliances when indicated to restore comfortable jaw function.

“My kids have been going to this practice since they were toddlers, and having one doctor who understands their complete dental history and growth patterns has made such a difference. Dr. Kim treats them like they’re his own children and recommends only what’s truly necessary. The convenience of having both their regular checkups and orthodontics in one place has been a game-changer for our family.”

“What impressed me most was how honest the doctor is about treatment recommendations. He explained exactly why each step was needed and never pushed unnecessary procedures. Having someone I trust completely managing both my kids’ dental and orthodontic care gives me peace of mind. The staff is incredibly kind and patient with nervous children.”

“We switched practices specifically because we wanted someone who could handle both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics under one roof. The continuity of care is amazing, and our kids actually look forward to their appointments. The whole team treats every patient like family, and the clinical expertise is evident in every interaction.”

Key Findings for Orthodontic & Pediatric Dental Care

At what age should my child start orthodontic treatment?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children receive an orthodontic evaluation by age 7, even if all baby teeth are still present. Early evaluation allows Dr. Kim to identify developing concerns and determine whether early interceptive treatment might improve outcomes. Many children benefit from early evaluation but do not require treatment immediately; others may benefit significantly from timely early intervention to guide jaw development and create space for permanent teeth.

What is the difference between Invisalign and braces?

Both clear aligners like Invisalign and traditional braces effectively straighten teeth and correct bite problems, but they work differently. Clear aligners use a series of custom-made transparent trays to gradually move teeth, offering a discreet and comfortable option. Traditional braces use fixed wires and brackets. Dr. Kim determines which foundational orthodontic option is best for each patient based on their specific developmental needs, focusing on interceptive care and straightforward alignment cases. (Note: Comprehensive Phase 2 treatments, such as traditional braces, are scheduled exclusively as dedicated orthodontic appointments).

Are dental sealants safe for children?

Yes. Dental sealants are safe and highly effective preventive treatments recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Association. Sealants are thin coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to fill deep grooves where cavities commonly develop. They reduce cavity risk by approximately 80 percent and require no removal of healthy tooth structure, making them a cornerstone of our minimally invasive approach.

What should I do if my child has dental anxiety?

Dental anxiety in children is common and entirely manageable. Dr. Kim specializes in helping anxious children feel safe and comfortable through positive communication and behavioral guidance. When appropriate, we also offer safe nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation to help children relax while remaining awake. Early positive experiences build lifelong confidence in the dental chair.

Can children with sleep apnea be treated at Green Level?

Dr. Kim evaluates symptoms of sleep-disordered breathing and collaborates with physicians for diagnostic sleep studies when indicated. For qualifying pediatric patients, we offer conservative interventions such as custom oral appliances. (Consultations and treatments for sleep-disordered breathing are scheduled by dedicated appointment only). Early identification is essential for supporting your child’s healthy growth, behavior, and long-term well-being.
