Clear Aligners for Children and Teens in Apex

Last updated
Clear aligners offer a removable, less noticeable way to correct selected tooth-alignment and bite concerns. Green Level Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics provides personalized evaluations to determine whether an aligner system, Invisalign®, braces, or another approach is appropriate for each growing patient.
What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are custom-made trays that move teeth through a planned sequence of small adjustments. Patients progress from one set of trays to the next according to the schedule provided by their orthodontic care provider.
“Clear aligners” describes the overall treatment category. Invisalign® is one specific brand within that category.

Benefits of Clear Aligners

Removable Trays
Aligners can be removed for meals, brushing, and flossing. This can make it easier for children and teens to clean their teeth without brackets or wires in the way.

Subtle Appearance
The transparent trays are less noticeable than conventional braces when worn. This may appeal to teens who prefer a discreet treatment option.

Digital Planning
Digital scans and diagnostic records help the provider plan tooth movements, evaluate the developing bite, and monitor progress throughout treatment.
Did You Know…
Clear aligners require active participation from the patient. Because the trays work only while they are being worn, a child or teen must be able to follow the prescribed daily wear schedule, keep track of the trays, and change them as directed.

Why Choose Green Level Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics?
The Clear Aligner Process
1
Evaluation and Records
The practice examines the teeth and bite and may collect digital scans, photographs, and dental imaging. These records help determine whether clear aligners are suitable.
2
Aligner Wear
The patient receives a series of trays and instructions for daily wear. Aligners are usually removed for meals, most drinks, brushing, and flossing.
3
Monitoring and Retention
Progress appointments allow the orthodontic care provider to evaluate tooth movement and make adjustments when necessary. After active treatment, a retainer helps maintain the corrected positions.

Six Key Findings About Clear Aligners
Aligners are not appropriate for every orthodontic problem. Braces or another appliance may provide better control for certain complex tooth movements and bite corrections.
Daily wear affects treatment progress. Removing the trays too frequently or leaving them out for extended periods may delay planned tooth movement.
Attachments may be necessary. Small tooth-colored shapes can be bonded to selected teeth to help the trays apply specific forces.
Some patients may also need elastics. Rubber bands can be incorporated when the treatment plan requires additional bite correction.
Oral hygiene remains essential. Teeth should be cleaned before aligners are replaced so food, plaque, and sugary liquids are not held against the enamel.
Retention follows active treatment. A retainer is normally prescribed after aligner treatment because teeth can shift without continued support.
Schedule a Clear Aligner Evaluation in Apex
Families can schedule an appointment with Green Level Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics to learn whether clear aligners are appropriate for their child or teen. The evaluation will consider dental development, bite correction, treatment complexity, oral hygiene, and the patient’s readiness to manage removable trays.
Questions Apex Families Ask About Aligners
What is the difference between clear aligners and Invisalign®?
Clear aligners are a category of removable orthodontic appliances. Invisalign® is one particular clear-aligner brand. Different systems can vary in their materials, planning software, available features, and suitability for particular cases.
Is my child a candidate for clear aligners?
Candidacy depends on the child’s tooth positions, bite, dental development, treatment needs, oral health, and ability to wear the trays consistently. An examination and diagnostic records are required before a recommendation can be made.
How long should aligners be worn each day?
The prescribed schedule depends on the aligner system and treatment plan. Many systems require most-day wear, with removal mainly for eating, drinking anything other than water, and oral hygiene. Families should follow the practice’s specific instructions.
How often does my child change aligners?
Many treatment plans use a new set every one to two weeks, but the schedule varies. Patients should not advance to the next tray earlier than instructed, even if the current aligner feels comfortable.
Can children and teens eat while wearing aligners?
Aligners are generally removed for meals and snacks. Unless the dental team gives different instructions, patients should also remove them before drinking anything other than plain water. Teeth should be cleaned before the trays are reinserted.
Will my child need a retainer afterward?
Yes. Retainers help hold the teeth in their corrected positions after active aligner treatment. The type of retainer and wear schedule will be based on the completed treatment and the patient’s continuing dental development.
